We’re so excited you’re here! At the Granada English Academy, we believe in the transformative power of education. We’re working hard to create a safe, welcoming space for Nicaraguan youth to learn and practice English, opening the door for them to higher education, better employment opportunities, and brighter futures.
But we can’t do it alone—and we’re hoping others who are passionate about education, as well as those who have a special place in their heart for Nicaragua, will join us in our mission.
What is the Granada English Academy?
Located in the heart of Granada, Nicaragua, our academy is a Saturday morning program serving over 30 students aged 6 to 18. These young learners come to us from various backgrounds, many of them experiencing deep poverty. Public schools often lack the resources to provide students with the English fluency they need to thrive in a global economy, so we are working to fill that gap.
Every week, our students dive into interactive English lessons, practice conversational skills, and explore Nicaraguan and world cultures through stories and activities. Whether they dream of higher education or careers in tourism, technology, or international business, learning English is a vital step in their journeys.

Meet the People Behind the Mission
The Granada English Academy was founded by Manuel Lacayo, a dedicated local teacher with a passion for empowering Nicaraguan youth. He works tirelessly to provide his students with the tools they need to succeed. The school is supported by Miranda Miller, a Canadian editor and publisher who fundraises year-round and volunteers at the academy whenever she’s in Nicaragua.
